Raiders and the JROTC class are NOT just for students interested in the military.
-
The JROTC class is focused on Character, Leadership and Academics. Over the last ten years, 34 JROTC students have been awarded full three- or four-year ROTC college scholarships, another 21 went to state colleges and universities, and five were AHS Valedictorians, Salutatorians or Senior Class Presidents.
Raiders have tryouts in August during the second week of school. The first competition is the second weekend in September and the last competition is the National Championship the first weekend in November. Raiders begin training for the upcoming season in May and continue all through the summer. Workouts are after school in May, then every Monday, Wednesday and Friday (cadet led on Friday) from 8 AM to 10 AM during summer break. These workouts are not mandatory, but highly recommended. Potential Raiders spend the summer conditioning their body for Raider competitions by running, rucking, building upper body and core strength. Raiders will also spend some time in the weight room. Raiders must be well rounded physically. They must be able to run 2-4 miles at a competitive pace, they must be able to run while carrying weight and they must have speed and agility. If you are a rising Freshman and want to become a Raider, it is recommended you come to the after-school workouts in May.
AHS Raiders set two goals, team goals and individual goals. The team goal every year is to win the Male and Female State and National Championship. Individual goals are goals that are set in order to meet the team goals. Understand, all Raiders are developed. We have a saying when the season starts and with all new Raiders, "It's not where you're at, it's where you're going". No matter what your physical ability is, if you have the determination, we will make you a Raider. Below are three levels of individual goals. If you want to try out for Raiders, your first goal should be reaching the Intro goals before tryouts. If you have a high level of fitness and want to be on one of the high performing teams, Tier One should be your goal.
