Raiders is a JROTC extra-curricular activity that is focused on physical fitness, discipline, and teamwork. Tryouts for Raiders is in August during the second week of school and usually lasts one week. There are three divisions in Raiders; Male, Female, and Mixed and each team has twelve members. Raider competitions usually have five events that may vary depending on the host of the event. The most common events include a Team Run that is usually 3-5 Kilometers over a variance of terrain. Teams must finish together so they are only as fast as their slowest Raider. Cross Country Rescue event involves going through a course that is usually between a half mile and a mile carrying a simulated casualty on a litter that weights between 80-150 pounds, depending on the division and event host. Teams also have to carry between four to six ruck sacks that weigh between 20 - 40 pounds and must negotiate multiple obstacles that might include walls, low crawls and vaults. The Rope Bridge event is the skilled/technical event. Teams must construct a one rope bridge and cross water, or simulated water, spanning between 45 to 95 feet. Teams use a 150 foot rope, snap links and Swiss Seats to cross the obstacle. Other events that teams might compete in is obstacle courses, tire flips and ruck sack runs. Raider also become proficient at basic first aid and map reading.

Adairsville JROTC Raiders compete against hundreds of other JROTC schools throughout Georgia, Tennessee, Florida and Alabama during the regular season. The Georgia State Championship in late October hosts the top 60--70 qualifying teams from over 125 schools in the state. At the Army Raider National Championships on the first weekend in November, the best teams from over 1700 schools nationwide meet at Fort Knox, KY for the Army National Title. And new this year will be the All-Service National Championship held at the Gerald Lawhorn Scouting Base in Molena, GA on the third weekend in November. Adairsville will be competing against the top schools from all JROTC branches, which is more than 3000 JROTC Programs worldwide.

Adairsville Raiders begin training during the last week of school and continue all through the summer. Every Monday, Wednesday, and Friday (cadet led on Friday) from 8 AM to 10 AM, potential Raiders train on skills such as running, rucking, rope climb, tire flip, pull ups, push ups, sit ups, dips and much more.  Summer training is not mandatory, but it is highly encouraged for all that is interested including upcoming freshmen. The first competition is the second weekend in September and the last competition is the National Championship the third weekend in November, www.thenationals.net. Adairsville Raiders that meet a set criteria will earn an Adairsville High School varsity letter just like the other sports at AHS.
